We Miss You, Sebastian

1989 - December 31, 2005

Sebastian was the kindest, gentlest, chocolatiest, sweetest and most vocal cat we have ever known. We loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bio

Bio

I am a male Siamese, age fourteen. I had two other human companions before Rachael adopted me. In July of 1997, I flew from Virginia to Iowa City, Iowa to be with her. A few weeks later, we flew together to California. Since then I have been with her through four different apartments, several jobs, and several roommates. I am a female calico, age 3. I mysteriously appeared outside of Rachael's apartment building in Daly City on March 3, 2002. I looked small and helpless, so Rachael gave me some food and petted me. I followed her up to her doorstep and waited there. By evening she caved and took me into her home.

Name

Name

When I was given to Rachael, I already had my name. It turned out to be fortuitous, since Rachael and Dan are such admirers of Johann Sebastian Bach. For some reason, I am often called "Bubba" around the house. Due to my meditative nature, Rachael and Dan call me "His Holiness the Fourteenth Bubba Lama of Bernal Heights, spiritual and temporal leader of 422 Cortland."

For the first few weeks of my adoption, I was referred to as "Kitty X" or "the poofball"; Rachael didn't want to get too attached to me in case my previous owner showed up to claim me. But soon I was given my real name. In keeping with the Bach theme, I was named Magda, after Bach's second wife, Anna Magdalena. Since then I have earned several nicknames, inspired by my characteristics. My rumbly purr reminds Dan of motorcyle engines, and my athleticism reminds Rachael of a famous gymnast. Hence, my full name: Harley Anna Magdalena Lu Retton Bach Davidson Hutchings.

Appearance

Appearance

I have classic seal-point coloration and dazzling blue eyes. My ears are perfectly tapered and I have a generous build of 12.5 lbs. Some have commented on my noble profile.

I am a long-haired kitty with chaotic splotches of orange, cream, and grey all over. I have a peachy cheek, creamy chin, and somebody dropped cream on my forehead. I have green eyes and a very bushy tail. I am only six pounds, but I have sharp teeth. Don't think I won't use them.

Favorite Activities

Favorite Activities

It is my responsibility to hold down the furniture, especially the bed and the couch. Sometimes I multitask by sleeping while I hold down the bed or couch. I am a lap afficionado. I have extremely sensitive lap detection technology. I greatly enjoy kneading and meowing while I am in the lap.

I am a huntress. I hunt glitterpoms primarily, but have a predilection for hunting human feet when they are in the bed. I like to run and jump. I like to sit upon whatever item is occupying too much of a human's attention: books, magazines, computer keyboards, or playing cards. I am good at the flop technique. When I need a tummy rub, I flop directly in the path of a human, and they are forced to bend down and rub my tummy.

Dialects

Dialects

I speak "ngao" and "br-rrr."

I speak mostly "reh-heh-heh" and "meep," but am semi-fluent in "ra-how."

Things the Humans Say to Me

Things the Humans Say to Me

"good boy" "teddy bear" "oh Bubba...why didn't you use the box?" "It's not feeding time yet"

"pumpkin" "crazy girl" "go get it!" "no biting" "ouch!" "NO!"

My View of the Other Cat

My View of the Other Cat

Magda is crazy and young. Sometimes when I am deep in meditation, she pounces on me, unprovoked! She gets a lot of attention because she follows the humans around the house, while I am committed to lying down.

Sebastian isn't exciting enough! He sits still a lot, so I try to rouse him by attacking him. It's my duty.
